Supporting Youth in Agribusiness

Kenarava Group, through the Israeli Embassy in Kenya, granted Mr. Peter Gitauh a Full Farmers’ Kit to expand his agribusiness operations.

Supporting and strengthening Youth in Agribusiness is our commitment to attaining Food security, youth empowerment and wealth creation.

Peter, a graduate of AICAT-Israel, is an enterprising Kenyan youth whose farming business supplies his local community with fresh produce. Peter Gitau holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Land Resource planning and management from the Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology. He is a beneficiary of the Israel – Kenya agreement to train young people on Dryland Agriculture in the Arava Valley, South Israel.

Upon returning from AICAT Israel, Peter together with his uncle started the Elifaz Farm in Thika, Kiambu County. Here they practice both greenhouse and open field farming, techniques he learnt from the Israeli Farms in Lotan where he was attached. He majors in the production of horticultural crops which include tomatoes, cucumber, onions, capsicum, coriander, vegetables and fruit trees like bananas. The farm also has a small chicken unit where he rears local breed chicken.

He is a Kenarava Youth in Agribusiness Champion in his area, a position that is focused on working with him to reach more young people and involve them in agriculture. This is in line with Kenarava’s mission of using agribusiness as a tool for job creation, poverty reduction and wealth generation. He also has enjoyed various benefits in his interaction with Kenarava Group Ltd which include:

1. Unlimited access to Kenarava Group events which include farmers field days, conferences etc
2. Capacity building and training on recent affordable & reliable innovations in agriculture
3. Exposure and Linkages to sector players within Kenarava Group Ltd network; KTN Farmers Tv, AgriProFocus Kenya

At Kenarava, we shall continue to empower the #youthinagribusiness as we look towards the achievement of national food security
